Season's greetings from ShareThis!
As we wind down 2010 and look ahead to 2011, it's rewarding to reflect upon all we've accomplished in the past year. With a number of speaking engagements and new team hires, as well as product launches and case studies, we tapped into the simple act of sharing in order to bring tremendous value to publishers and consumers. Here's how:
With the launch of the ShareThis Stream, and the to-go version, the ShareThis Trending Content widget, we provided a real-time view of how content is shared and engaged with across the Web, allowing publishers to increase reader engagement and traffic, and helping consumers to find the most relevant and interesting content that their friends are reading and sharing. From there we built Social Reach and Audience Index, as well as the ShareThis Analytics Metrics Dashboard in order for publishers to understand and measure these social audiences.
We also announced our first successful case study with skin therapy company Mederma, during which we identified and targeted a highly relevant and engaged audience. We helped run a display advertising coupon campaign, aimed at engaging the people sharing and talking about topics related to the Mederma brand, i.e. scars and stretch marks. Using ShareThis Influence segments, which leverage sharing influence as opposed to traditional search and contextual display, we found a 25 percent redemption rate and a 50 percent engagement rate. CEO Tim Schigel presented our findings at a number of events, including Ad:Tech in San Francisco and most recently at Digiday: Target in Los Angeles.
We've had a great year and have only begun to scrape the surface on ways we can use sharing to help publishers, advertisers and consumers. We have our work cut out for us in the New Year and are excited to get started.
Coming Soon! New Widget and Multi-Posting Abilities
Choice is good. That's a core part of ShareThis' philosophy and a guiding light in building out our service, as well as a main idea behind our redesigned widget.
The new widget, which will be available to publishers soon, will make it possible for users to share a piece of content across several different social networks with just one click. When a user rolls over the share button on a page, the widget pops up and gives them the option to select all the places where they want to share the content. As long as they're signed in, it instantly gets shared everywhere.
